Ammonia Storage Tank

A new double-walled, double integrity refrigerated ammonia storage tank with a capacity of 45,000 mt was installed in 2004 to replace the old two single-walled ammonia storage tanks. This has been done to reduce any risk of ammonia leak from the storage. Ammonia is stored in the storage tank at a temperature of minus 33 deg centigrade in this tank.

Urea Bulk Hall

QAFCO has 4 urea bulk halls with a total capacity of 390,000 mt to store granular and prilled urea. In order to have a high quality product, an elaborate HVAC system was provided to control the Temperature and Humidity in the bulk halls to asure proper storage of urea. The urea bulk halls are provided with an automatic urea reclaimer.

Material handling

To ensure smooth loading and shipping of its products to world-wide destinations QAFCO has established two jetties/three berths equipped with five ship loaders to load three ships at one time with exported Ammonia and Urea.In 2004 and in order to cope with the increased export shipment traffic, the Jetty-2, extended with a new berth to accommodate urea ships of size 5000 DWT to 40000 DWT and ammonia tankers of size 5000 DWT to 45000 DWT. A new ammonia-loading arm, to export ammonia at the rate of 1000 mt/h, was installed in the new berth at Jetty-2. as well with the help of the automatic urea reclaimer which is provided in the new urea bulk hall urea can be exported from jetty-2 at the rate of 1000 mt/h.

Al-Marona Vessel

QAFCO has started to play an important role in the logistics of ammonia, esp. with inauguration of its ammonia vessel LPG/C”Al Marona” in June 2004. Al-Marona was the first Liquified Petroleum Gas (LPG) Vessel built for QAFCO. this vessel which is leased to QAFCO through a time-charter contract signed between QAFCO and Q-Ship is QAFCO’s first charter arrangement without specific sales commitment, and it is significant for QAFCO because it is going in accordance with QAFCO marketing strategy which opt for selling part of its ammonia exports in the spot market besides those amounts exported under long term agreements, and with this new ammonia vessel mostly at its control QAFCO will be able to effectively implement this strategy, that it allows the company the required flexibility to transport additional quantities of ammonia on anticipated short-term and medium-term contracts.
