DuPont "STOP" technique on Behaviour Based safety was adopted in QAFCO in 2009.
The purpose of introducing behavior-based safety in QAFCO was to enhance proactive identification of at-risk behaviors and eliminating / controlling them, so as to prevent injury / damage due to accidents. Behavior based safety (BBS) is a proactive process for identifying at-risk behavior and removing the barriers for safe behavior. A study done by DuPont has concluded that 96% of incidents are a related to unsafe act / behavior of personnel. Therefore, compliance is necessary but not sufficient for good safety. Safety is about people, and behavior is the challenge. BBS uses the principle of employee involvement & ownership, safety leadership and continual improvement. The benefit expected is improved work environment and reduction in incidents and injuries. Hence, to benefit out of this tool it was decided to implement this technique in QAFCO. The introduction of BBS started in the QAFCO workshops and is being gradually cascaded to other areas within QAFCO.
